The Jefferson city council moved forward on rezoning a portion of northeast Jefferson at its regular meeting May 11, approving the first reading of a pair of ordinances for the rezoning. That action followed two public hearings at which no one spoke.
The neighborhood involved generally surrounds St Joseph Catholic Church and will allow the construction of multi-family housing. The neighborhood includes three lots previously rezoned to RM-3 for rental properties built by Rowland Construction on N. Olive St between E. Reed and E. Clark Sts. Rowland recently purchased property at the northeast corner of N. Cedar and Reed St with the intention of building more multi-family housing.
The second smaller area to be rezoned is a lot on N. Cedar St that is currently zoned for light industrial. New zoning is residential- single family.
The council approved payments of $169,086 to Caliber Concrete for the shared use trails project, and $107,047 to Concrete Technologies for the airport runway project.
The council set May 25 at 5:30 pm for a public hearing on selling the property at 100 E. State St to Why Not Us? LLC. That group formed to spearhead the repair of the building for the purpose of retaining Angie’s Tea Garden.
During the Reports portion of the meeting, Greene County Development Corporation director Ken Paxton highlighted the Ram Fanatic social media class at Greene County High School and the partnership with the Retail Revamped businesses. Students are assisting six retail businesses with increasing their online and social media capabilities.
